Privacy Policy

How Flinch handles your captures, information, and support requests.

Last updated October 5, 2026

1. Scope

This Privacy Policy applies to the Flinch application for Windows and the Flinch website. It describes the information processed when using these services, the purposes of processing, and the controls available to users.

2. Screen capture and audio

Flinch accesses screen content to create screenshots, video recordings, and GIFs at the user’s direction. Audio is accessed when audio recording is enabled. Screen content and audio may contain personal information, depending on the material captured.

Capture processing, including cropping, annotation, and encoding, takes place on the user’s device. Output is saved locally to the configured destination. Screenshots may also be copied to the Windows clipboard. Flinch does not transmit capture content or recorded audio to the developer or provide a cloud storage or upload service.

3. Application settings and diagnostics

Flinch stores application preferences and diagnostic logs locally. Preferences are used to apply the user’s selected capture, storage, and interface settings. Logs are used to diagnose application errors and may include timestamps, file paths, error messages, and technical recording information.

Application settings and diagnostic logs are not automatically transmitted to the developer. Flinch does not require an account and does not include usage analytics, advertising trackers, or automatic crash-report submission.

4. Updates and network requests

The Microsoft Store edition receives updates through Microsoft Store, subject to the user’s Store settings. It does not perform a separate version check against the Flinch website.

Direct-installer editions offer an online update check, enabled by default. When enabled, the application checks for a newer release when the interface starts. This check can be disabled using Check for Updates in General settings. The request does not contain capture content, audio, application preferences, or an application-generated user identifier. Version comparison takes place locally.

Online requests disclose an IP address and standard request metadata to the receiving server. Update checks use HTTPS. Following an update link opens the Flinch website in the user’s browser. The application’s update setting does not control Microsoft Store or Windows update services.

5. Website information

The website processes information associated with requests to deliver content and support website operation and security. This may include IP addresses, requested pages or files, timestamps, browser information, and error records. These requests do not include the contents of captures stored on the user’s device.

The website does not use tracking cookies, analytics scripts, advertising trackers, user registration. The Microsoft Store badge image is loaded from Microsoft. This image request discloses standard request information to Microsoft, whose privacy policy applies.

Feedback and bug report forms collect the email address and details voluntarily entered by the user. Submissions are sent by email to the developer to review feedback, investigate problems, and respond to the request. Email delivery involves the configured email service. Do not submit passwords, sensitive personal information, or private capture content. The forms do not automatically collect captures or application logs.

6. Storage, retention, and security

Captures, preferences, and application logs are stored on the user’s device. Captures remain until deleted by the user or by another application with access to the storage location. Application logs are subject to local cleanup, and users may delete them independently. Uninstalling Flinch may leave saved captures, preferences, or logs on the device.

Access to locally stored information is governed by Windows file permissions and the security of the user’s device and chosen storage location. Capture files are ordinary media files; Flinch does not provide an encrypted vault for them. Users should apply appropriate device and storage protections when capturing sensitive information.

7. Third-party services and disclosure

Flinch does not sell personal information or transmit captures, audio, settings, or diagnostic logs to the developer. If a user voluntarily supplies files or logs for support, the information supplied is used to address that request.

Files saved to a folder managed by a synchronization service may be uploaded by that service. Clipboard content may be accessed by other applications or processed by Windows clipboard history and synchronization features. These activities are governed by the user’s settings and the relevant service’s privacy policy.

Microsoft Store, Windows, and the user’s browser may independently process installation, update, or diagnostic information. Their processing is governed by their respective privacy policies.

8. User controls and rights

Users can access, copy, or delete locally stored captures and logs, change application preferences and storage destinations, and manage clipboard contents through Windows. Users of direct-installer editions can disable online update checks without disabling capture features.

Where applicable law provides such rights, users may request access to, correction or deletion of personal information, restriction of processing, or object to processing. Users may also lodge a complaint with the relevant data protection authority. Requests concerning information processed independently by a third-party service should be directed to that service.

9. Privacy contact

Questions about this Privacy Policy and requests concerning personal information handled by the developer may be sent to [email protected].

Requests should describe the matter and provide sufficient information to identify the relevant records. Do not include captures, recordings, or diagnostic logs unless they are necessary for the request.

10. Policy updates

This Privacy Policy will be revised when relevant application features or data-handling practices change. The revision date is shown at the beginning of this page.
